Transport and Ticketing

PrintE-mail

Innovations in transport technology has meant that new solutions are
emerging to allow customers to pay for different transport applications
through the epay retail network. Many of these solutions mean that the
underlying service can be delivered more quickly, efficiently and cost
effectively because payment is not being collected at the point of use e.g.
road tolling and the elimination of toll booths In many cases public
transport authorities have an obligation to ensure that their customers
have suitable access to cash based services as part of a
“social inclusion” agenda and the epay cash collection network
satisfies this requirement.

Road Tolling

Customers load funds into their “account” at an epay location either by using their
registered “account card” as a means of identification or by providing their unique
vehicle registration details. This account is connected to their vehicle “tag” so that
the toll barriers “recognise” that the vehicle has available funds and
is therefore able to proceed.

Ticketing

Paper based tickets are rapidly being replaced by smart cards that hold tickets and
electronic purse for “pay as you go” travel. Customers can load their smart cards at
the point of sale quickly and easily and funds are typically made available instantly.

Parking

On street parking meters are being removed in many cities around the world and
alternative payment mechanisms are being introduced. The epay network can be
used to buy a “parking voucher” or load funds directly into a “parking account” that
can then be identified as having the appropriate funds available when
checked by a parking official.
